Raimundo Pereira, born on August twenty-eighth, nineteen fifty-six, is a prominent Bissau-Guinean lawyer and politician. He served as the interim President of Guinea-Bissau during two critical periods: first from March third to September eighth in two thousand nine, and again in two thousand twelve, stepping in after President Malam Bacai Sanhá sought medical treatment abroad. Following Sanhá's passing, Pereira continued to lead the nation during a tumultuous time.
Before his presidency, Pereira was elected as President of the National People's Assembly on December twenty-second, two thousand eight. His political career is closely tied to the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), a significant force in the country's political landscape.
Despite his contributions, Pereira's tenure was cut short when he was ousted in a coup on April twelfth, two thousand twelve, and was succeeded by Mamadu Ture Kuruma. His journey reflects the complexities of leadership in Guinea-Bissau, marked by both achievements and challenges.
