Raj Kapoor

Raj Kapoor, born on December 14, 1924, in Peshawar, was a luminary in Hindi cinema, renowned as an actor, film director, producer, screenwriter, and film editor. As the eldest son of the esteemed Prithviraj Kapoor, he emerged from the illustrious Kapoor family, leaving an indelible mark on the film industry.

Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential figures in Indian cinema, Kapoor earned the monikers of The Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema and The Charlie Chaplin of Indian Cinema. His cinematic journey was heavily inspired by Charlie Chaplin, leading him to portray characters reminiscent of The Tramp in iconic films such as Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Mera Naam Joker (1970).

Kapoor's performance in Awaara was celebrated globally, being ranked among the Top-Ten Greatest Performances of All Time in World Cinema by Time magazine in two thousand five. His films, including Awaara and Boot Polish (1954), garnered international acclaim, competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in nineteen fifty-one and nineteen fifty-five.

Throughout his career, Kapoor received numerous accolades, including three National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare Awards. His films achieved remarkable commercial success across Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Soviet bloc. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan in nineteen seventy-one, and he was posthumously awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in nineteen eighty-eight.
