Rajendra Prasad

Rajendra Prasad, born on December third, eighteen eighty-four, was a prominent Indian lawyer, politician, journalist, and scholar. He played a pivotal role in India's struggle for independence and became a significant leader from Bihar. His political journey began with the Indian National Congress during the independence movement, where he emerged as a staunch supporter of Mahatma Gandhi.

Prasad's commitment to the cause of freedom led to his imprisonment during critical events such as the Salt Satyagraha in nineteen thirty and the Quit India movement in nineteen forty-two. Following the elections of the constituent assembly in nineteen forty-six, he took on the role of the first Minister of Food and Agriculture in the central government, serving from nineteen forty-seven to nineteen forty-eight.

Upon India's independence in nineteen forty-seven, Prasad was elected as the President of the Constituent Assembly, which was responsible for drafting the Constitution of India. When India became a republic in nineteen fifty, he was elected as its first president by the Constituent Assembly, establishing a tradition of non-partisanship and independence for the office.

During his presidency, which lasted until nineteen sixty-two, Prasad encouraged educational development and provided guidance to the government on various matters. He was re-elected in nineteen fifty-seven, making him the only president to serve two full terms, totaling around twelve years in office. After completing his tenure, he distanced himself from Congress and set new guidelines for parliamentarians that continue to be followed today.
