Singh's political journey is marked by his tenure as the 25th Union Minister of Home Affairs in the first Modi ministry from 2014 to 2019, where he made history as the first individual born after Indian independence to occupy this esteemed office. His leadership within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is notable, having served as its President from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2014.

Before his current roles, Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2000 to 2002 and held various ministerial positions, including Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Highways in the Vajpayee Government from 1999 to 2000 and Minister of Agriculture from 2003 to 2004. His early political career began as a swayamsevak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

Throughout his career, Singh has represented the Haidergarh constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and has been a member of the Lok Sabha from Lucknow since 2014, as well as from Ghaziabad from 2009 to 2014. Additionally, he served in the Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2001 and again from 2002 to 2008, further solidifying his influence in Indian politics.
