Ralph Klein

He served as the twelfth premier of Alberta and led the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta from nineteen ninety-two until his retirement in two thousand six. Before his provincial leadership, Klein was the thirty-second mayor of Calgary from nineteen eighty to nineteen eighty-nine, where he navigated the complexities of the oil industry's boom and bust cycles.

Raised in Calgary, Klein's early life was marked by a non-traditional educational path; he dropped out of high school in grade eleven to join the Royal Canadian Air Force reserves for a year. Following this, he attended the Calgary Business College, where he later worked as a teacher and principal. His career took a turn towards journalism, where he became a well-known local reporter, focusing on the struggles of the working class, social outcasts, and First Nations communities, which earned him their respect and admiration.

In nineteen eighty, Klein transitioned into politics, winning the mayoral election as an underdog candidate. His tenure as mayor was notable for overseeing the expansion of the CTrain and the successful hosting of the nineteen eighty-eight Winter Olympic Games. After resigning as mayor in nineteen eighty-nine, he served as Environment Minister in Don Getty's cabinet for four years before taking the helm of the Progressive Conservative Association.

He led the party to a majority government in the nineteen ninety-three Alberta general election and continued to secure three more majority victories.
