Raoni Metuktire

Raoni Metuktire, born in 1932, is a prominent Indigenous leader and environmentalist from Brazil. Known as Chief Raoni or Ropni, he represents the Kayapo people, an Indigenous group residing in the lush plains of Mato Grosso and Pará, situated south of the Amazon River and along the Xingu River and its tributaries.

Throughout his life, Raoni has become an internationally recognized figure, symbolizing the ongoing struggle for the preservation of the Amazon rainforest and the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples. His advocacy has brought global attention to the environmental challenges facing the Amazon and the rights of its Indigenous inhabitants.
