Ratan Tata

Ratan Tata, born on December twenty-eighth, nineteen thirty-seven, is a distinguished Indian entrepreneur, engineer, businessperson, and philanthropist. He is best known for his leadership as the chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons from nineteen ninety-one to two thousand twelve, and he briefly served as interim chairman from October two thousand sixteen to February two thousand seventeen.

As the son of Naval Tata, who was adopted by Ratanji Tata, the lineage traces back to Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. Ratan Tata graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture from Cornell University College of Architecture and further honed his business acumen by attending the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program in nineteen seventy-five.

Joining the Tata Group in nineteen sixty-two, Tata began his career on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He succeeded JRD Tata as chairman of Tata Sons upon the latter's retirement in nineteen ninety-one. Under his stewardship, the Tata Group expanded its global footprint, acquiring notable companies such as Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus, transforming it from a primarily India-centric organization into a global powerhouse.

In addition to his corporate achievements, Ratan Tata is a committed philanthropist and has invested in over forty start-ups, primarily in a personal capacity, with further investments through his firm, RNT Capital Advisors. His contributions to society and business have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan in two thousand and the Padma Vibhushan in two thousand eight.
