Ratko Perić

Ratko Perić, born on February second, nineteen forty-four, is a distinguished prelate of the Catholic Church, recognized for his extensive contributions as a university teacher, writer, and bishop. He served as the bishop of Mostar-Duvno and held the position of apostolic administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan from nineteen ninety-three until his retirement in two thousand twenty.

During his episcopate, Perić faced significant challenges, notably the Herzegovina Affair and the controversial alleged apparitions in Medjugorje. He was a staunch advocate for the implementation of Romanis Pontificibus, which mandated the transfer of certain parishes from the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina to the diocese. Despite his efforts, these parishes remained under the control of the Franciscans, leading to tensions within the Church.

In relation to the Medjugorje apparitions, Perić maintained a firm stance aligned with the official position of the Catholic Church, asserting that no supernatural events had occurred in the region. His commitment to these issues defined his tenure and reflected his dedication to upholding Church doctrine.

After retiring in July two thousand twenty, Perić briefly continued to serve as the apostolic administrator of both dioceses until the installation of his successor, Petar Palić, in September two thousand twenty.
