Raúl Eduardo Vela Chiriboga

Raúl Eduardo Vela Chiriboga, born on January first, nineteen thirty-four, was a distinguished Ecuadorian prelate of the Catholic Church. His ecclesiastical journey saw him rise through various ranks, ultimately becoming the Archbishop of Quito, a position he held from two thousand three until two thousand ten.

His early career began with his appointment as a bishop coadjutor in nineteen seventy-two, where he served as an auxiliary bishop in Guayaquil. Following this, he took on the role of Bishop of Azogues and later became the Military Ordinary of Ecuador, showcasing his commitment to both the church and the nation.

In recognition of his dedicated service and leadership within the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI elevated him to the rank of cardinal in two thousand ten. This honor reflected not only his contributions to the church but also his influence within the broader community.
