Ravindra Jadeja, born on December 6, 1988, is a prominent Indian cricketer known for his exceptional skills as an all-rounder. Representing the India national team in One Day Internationals and Test formats, he has established himself as one of the finest fielders of his generation. Jadeja bats left-handed and bowls left-arm orthodox spin, showcasing his versatility on the field.
His cricketing journey began with a significant achievement as the vice-captain of the Indian U-19 team that clinched the World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Jadeja made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on February 8, 2009, impressively scoring an unbeaten sixty runs. However, it wasn't until December 13, 2012, that he made his Test debut against England in Nagpur.
In the Indian Premier League, Jadeja has played for various franchises, including the Chennai Super Kings, who acquired him for two million dollars in 2012. After a two-season ban for the Super Kings, he was bought by the Gujarat Lions for nine and a half crores in 2016. His remarkable achievements include becoming the first Indian left-arm spinner to take 150 ODI wickets in January 2017 and reaching the top rank among bowlers worldwide in March 2017.
Jadeja played a pivotal role in India's victories in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2025, where he was the leading wicket-taker and player of the final in the former, and hit the winning boundary in the latter. He was also part of the squad that won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024, after which he announced his retirement from T20 internationals. In 2022, he took on the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings, succeeding MS Dhoni, although he stepped down mid-season.
