Ray Bourque

Ray Bourque, born on December 28, 1960, is a celebrated Canadian former professional ice hockey player, renowned for his exceptional skills as a defenceman. Over his illustrious career, he set remarkable records for the most career goals, assists, and points by a defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL). His prowess on the ice earned him the prestigious James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman five times, alongside six additional second-place finishes for the same award.

Throughout his career, Bourque was a dominant force, being named to the end-of-season All-Star teams a staggering nineteen times, a feat only surpassed by the legendary Gordie Howe. His accolades include a record thirteen selections to the first-team All-Star and six to the second-team, showcasing his consistent excellence in the sport.

For twenty-one seasons, Bourque was synonymous with the Boston Bruins, where he served as the franchise's longest-serving captain. He concluded his career with the Colorado Avalanche, triumphantly winning his only Stanley Cup championship in his final NHL game. Often regarded as the best offensive defenceman in NHL history, he was honored as one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017. Following his retirement, both the Bruins and the Avalanche retired his iconic number seventy-seven.

Bourque also represented Canada in three Canada Cups and participated in the 1998 Winter Olympics, marking a significant moment as it was the first time active NHL players were eligible to compete.
