Ray Nagin

Clarence Ray Nagin Jr., born on June 11, 1956, is a notable figure in American politics and business, best recognized for his tenure as the 60th Mayor of New Orleans, Louisiana, from May 2002 to May 2010.

Nagin gained international attention in 2005 during the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His leadership during this crisis faced significant scrutiny, particularly regarding his delayed evacuation order and the decision to direct residents to the inadequately equipped Superdome as a shelter of last resort. These actions were criticized for potentially contributing to the tragic loss of life and for showcasing a lack of effective crisis management.

Prior to his political career, Nagin held executive positions at Cox Communications, where he honed his business acumen. After leaving office, he established a consulting firm and authored a self-published book detailing his experiences during and after the hurricane, reflecting on the challenges faced by the city.

In 2014, Nagin's career took a significant downturn when he was convicted on multiple charges, including wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering, stemming from a city corruption scandal. He was subsequently sentenced to ten years in federal prison, marking a controversial chapter in his life.
