Rebecca Long-Bailey

Rebecca Long-Bailey, born on September twenty-second, nineteen seventy-nine, is a prominent British Labour Party politician and solicitor. Since her election in the two thousand fifteen general election, she has represented Salford, previously known as Salford and Eccles, in the House of Commons. Her political journey has seen her take on significant roles within the Shadow Cabinet, particularly under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn.

Long-Bailey served as the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury from two thousand sixteen to two thousand seventeen, before transitioning to the role of Shadow Business Secretary from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty. Following the leadership change to Keir Starmer, she briefly held the position of Shadow Education Secretary from April to June two thousand twenty.

In two thousand twenty, Long-Bailey was a candidate in the Labour Party leadership election, where she finished second to Keir Starmer. Her political career has not been without controversy; in July two thousand twenty-four, she, along with six other Labour MPs from the Labour Left, was suspended for six months for supporting a Scottish National Party amendment during the State Opening of Parliament.
