Rebiya Kadeer, born on January twenty-first, nineteen forty-seven, in Altay City, Xinjiang, China, is a prominent ethnic Uyghur businesswoman and political activist. She rose to prominence in the 1980s, amassing considerable wealth through her real estate ventures and the establishment of a multinational conglomerate.
Her political career began with various roles in the National People's Congress in Beijing and other governmental institutions. However, her activism took a dramatic turn in nineteen ninety-nine when she was arrested for allegedly sending confidential internal reports to her husband, who was advocating for East Turkistan independence in the United States.
After her release in two thousand five, Kadeer sought refuge in the United States, where she became a leading figure in international Uyghur organizations, including the World Uyghur Congress. Her journey reflects her unwavering commitment to human rights and the plight of the Uyghur people.
