Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, born on February twenty-sixth, nineteen fifty-four, in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, is a prominent Turkish statesperson and politician. He co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in two thousand one and has been serving as Turkey's president since two thousand fourteen. Prior to this, he held the position of the twenty-fifth prime minister from two thousand three to two thousand fourteen and was the mayor of Istanbul from nineteen ninety-four to nineteen ninety-eight.

Erdoğan's political journey began in local politics, where he was elected as the Welfare Party's Beyoğlu district chair in nineteen eighty-four and later as the Istanbul chair in nineteen eighty-five. His tenure as mayor was cut short when he was convicted in nineteen ninety-eight for inciting religious hatred, which led to a temporary ban from politics. After his release from prison in nineteen ninety-nine, he shifted his political stance, moving away from openly Islamist policies.

Under Erdoğan's leadership, the AKP achieved significant electoral victories, including a landslide win in the two thousand two elections. His time as prime minister was marked by economic recovery following the crisis of two thousand one, the initiation of EU membership negotiations, and a reduction in military influence over politics. In two thousand twelve, his government began peace negotiations with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) to address the long-standing Kurdish–Turkish conflict.

As president, Erdoğan's administration has faced criticism for democratic backsliding and increasing authoritarianism. His economic policies have resulted in high inflation and a depreciating Turkish lira. He has been active in international conflicts, including interventions in Syria and Libya, and has played a mediating role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In two thousand twenty-five, he oversaw the arrest of Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which sparked widespread protests and highlighted the contentious political climate in Turkey.
