Reginald John Marsden Parker

Reginald John Marsden Parker, born on February seventh, eighteen eighty-one in Cornwall, England, was a prominent figure in Saskatchewan's political landscape. He emigrated to Canada in nineteen ninety-eight, initially working as a farmhand before establishing a homestead in Togo, Saskatchewan. His early involvement in local politics began in nineteen oh-four when he was elected as a councilor in the rural municipality of Cote.

Parker's political career flourished as he served as reeve from nineteen oh-six to nineteen thirty-two. In nineteen oh-four, he married Cecilie Margaret Mapleton, and together they witnessed the evolution of Saskatchewan's political scene. His dedication to public service led him to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, where he was elected as the Liberal MLA for Pelly in the nineteen twenty-nine provincial election, taking a seat on the opposition bench.

Re-elected in the nineteen thirty-four provincial election, Parker's party regained power, and he was appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs in the cabinet of James Garfield Gardiner. He held this significant portfolio for a decade until the Saskatchewan CCF took power in the nineteen forty-four election. His contributions to the province were recognized when he was appointed lieutenant governor by Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King, officially taking office on June twenty-fifth, nineteen forty-five.
