María Dolores Amaya Vega, known professionally as Remedios Amaya, was born on May 1, 1962, in Seville, Spain. A celebrated flamenco singer, she has captivated audiences both nationally and internationally since the release of her debut album in 1978.
In 1983, Remedios Amaya was chosen by Televisión Española to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Munich. Although she did not score any points with her performance of "¿Quién maneja mi barca?", her participation marked a significant moment in her career.
Her early works, including the albums "Luna nueva" and "Seda en mi piel," showcased her unique blend of flamenco and rock. The album "Me voy contigo," released in 1997 and produced by Vicente Amigo, became a commercial success, selling over one hundred fifty thousand copies and featuring her hit single "Turu Turai." Subsequent albums, such as "Gitana soy" in 2001 and "Sonsonete" in 2002, further solidified her status in the music industry.
In 2004, she released a compilation of her greatest hits, and in 2016, she continued to evolve as an artist with the album "Rompiendo el silencio." Remedios Amaya remains a prominent figure in the world of flamenco music.
