Remo Giazotto

Remo Giazotto, born on September fourth, nineteen ten, was a distinguished Italian composer, musicologist, and music critic. He is best remembered for his comprehensive catalogue of the works of Tomaso Albinoni, which has significantly contributed to the understanding and appreciation of Baroque music. Giazotto's expertise extended beyond cataloguing; he authored biographies of notable composers, including the renowned Antonio Vivaldi.

His career in music criticism began in nineteen thirty-two when he joined the Rivista musicale italiana as a critic. Later, from nineteen forty-five to nineteen forty-nine, he served as the editor of the same publication. In nineteen sixty-seven, he took on the role of co-editor for the Nuova rivista musicale italiana, further solidifying his influence in the field.

Giazotto was also an esteemed educator, holding a professorship in the history of music at the University of Florence from nineteen fifty-seven to nineteen sixty-nine. His contributions to music were recognized in nineteen sixty-two when he was nominated to the prestigious Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia.

In nineteen forty-nine, he became the director of chamber music programs for the Italian state broadcaster RAI, and in nineteen sixty-six, he was appointed director of its international programs through the European Broadcasting Union. Additionally, he presided over RAI's auditioning committee and edited a series of biographies on composers, showcasing his dedication to promoting classical music.

Beyond his professional achievements, Giazotto was the father of physicist Adalberto Giazotto, highlighting a legacy that extends into the realms of science.
