Rey Mysterio

Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio, known to the world as Rey Mysterio, was born on December 11, 1974. This American professional wrestler has made an indelible mark in the wrestling industry, particularly as a celebrated luchador and cruiserweight. Currently signed to WWE, Mysterio performs on the Raw brand and is revered as one of the greatest in his field, having earned a place in the AAA Hall of Fame, Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, and WWE Hall of Fame.

Beginning his wrestling journey at the tender age of fourteen, Mysterio first stepped into the ring on the independent circuit in 1989. His career took a significant turn when he signed with Asistencia Asesoría y Administración in 1992. After brief stints with various promotions, he joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1996, where he played a pivotal role in popularizing lucha libre in the United States. During his time in WCW, he captured the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times, among other accolades.

After WCW's closure in 2001, Mysterio continued to showcase his talents across several promotions, including Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and the X Wrestling Federation. In 2002, he made his debut in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he resumed wearing his iconic mask. Over the years, he achieved remarkable success, winning the World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WWE Championship once, and the WWE Cruiserweight Championship three times, along with numerous other titles.

In 2015, Mysterio departed WWE, exploring opportunities in promotions like New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Lucha Underground. However, his passion for wrestling brought him back to WWE in 2018, where he continues to inspire fans, now alongside his son, Dominik. Rey Mysterio's legacy is not just defined by his championships but also by his influence on the sport and the generations of wrestlers that followed.
