Reza Pahlavi, born on October thirty-first, nineteen sixty, is an Iranian political activist and the former Crown Prince of the Pahlavi dynasty. He is the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, and Empress Farah. Currently residing in the United States, he lives as a dissident in exile, advocating for human rights and political reform in Iran.
Designated as Crown Prince during his father's coronation in nineteen sixty-seven, Reza's early life was marked by his military training as a cadet in the Imperial Iranian Air Force. In nineteen seventy-eight, he moved to the United States for pilot training at Reese Air Force Base. However, the following year, the Iranian Revolution led by Ruhollah Khomeini resulted in the overthrow of his father and the abolition of the monarchy.
After the death of his father in exile in nineteen eighty, Reza Pahlavi declared himself Shah of Iran, adopting the title 'Reza Shah II'. He became increasingly active in political opposition to the Islamic Republic from abroad, co-founding the Iran National Council in two thousand thirteen. Pahlavi has consistently advocated for a nationwide referendum to determine Iran's future governance and has called for protests against the current regime.
While he has garnered support from many Iranians, his standing among the broader opposition remains ambiguous. Described as a prominent figure during the Iranian protests of twenty twenty-five to twenty twenty-six, he is viewed as a potential transitional leader for a democratic Iran. However, his reliance on foreign backing has made him a polarizing figure, with both supporters and critics weighing in on his role in the future of Iran.
