Ri Jong-ok

Ri Jong-ok, born on January 10, 1916, was a prominent North Korean politician who played a significant role in the country's governance during the late twentieth century. He served as the premier of North Korea from 1977 to 1984, a period marked by his influence in shaping the nation's policies and direction.

In 1980, Ri was elected to the Presidium at the sixth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, further solidifying his position within the political hierarchy. His career continued to ascend when he was appointed Vice President of North Korea by the Supreme People's Assembly in January 1984, a role he held until October 1997.

Ri Jong-ok passed away on September 23, 1999. His funeral was attended by notable figures, including Kim Yong-nam, Pak Song-chol, and Hong Song-nam, reflecting his stature in North Korean politics. Throughout his career, he was honored with several prestigious awards, including the Order of Kim Il Sung, the Order of the National Flag (first class), and the Order of Freedom and Independence (first class), among others.
