Born in Victoria, within the Colony of Vancouver Island, Ricca was the daughter of John Allen from Oakland, California. Alongside her sisters, Louise and Ray Allen, she gained fame as a popular dancer during the eighteen eighties. Her early career included a significant nine-year tenure with a company led by the renowned actress Nance O'Neil, which helped shape her skills and stage presence.

In addition to her work in film, Ricca Allen was a prominent figure in vaudeville, eventually establishing her own company.
