Richard R. Drouin, born on April 8, 1932, in Quebec City, is a distinguished Canadian lawyer and businessman. He pursued his education at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in Montreal before studying law at Université Laval. After being called to the Quebec Bar in nineteen fifty-seven, he quickly established himself in the legal field.
In nineteen seventy-two, Drouin was honored with the title of Queen's Counsel, reflecting his expertise and contributions to the profession. He became a partner at McCarthy Tétrault, where he practiced law for many years. His leadership skills were further recognized when he served as the chairman and CEO of Hydro-Québec from nineteen eighty-eight to nineteen ninety-five.
Following his tenure at Hydro-Québec, Drouin joined the board of directors of Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. in nineteen ninety-five, eventually becoming chairman of the board from two thousand one to two thousand six. His influence extended to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees.
Drouin's contributions to society have been acknowledged through various honors, including being named an Officer of the National Order of Quebec in two thousand four and receiving the same title in the Order of Canada in nineteen ninety-three, later promoted to Companion in two thousand six.
