Richard Garfield, born on June twenty-six, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent American mathematician, inventor, and game designer. He is best known for creating Magic: The Gathering, which debuted in nineteen ninety-three and is widely regarded as the first collectible card game (CCG). The game's innovative mechanics and engaging gameplay led to its immense success, inspiring a multitude of imitations in the gaming industry.

Garfield's influence extends beyond Magic, as he has designed a variety of other games that have garnered attention and acclaim. His portfolio includes notable titles such as Keyforge, Netrunner, and the BattleTech Collectible Card Game. Additionally, he contributed to the Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, the Star Wars Trading Card Game, and the popular party game The Great Dalmuti.
