His influence extended to the national stage, where he served as the manager of Denmark's under-21 team from nineteen seventy-eight to nineteen eighty-nine and as an assistant manager for the senior national team from nineteen eighty-seven to nineteen ninety.
Nielsen's most notable achievement came when he led the Danish national team to victory at the UEFA Euro nineteen ninety-two, marking Denmark's first major international title. His final managerial position was with Kolding FC in two thousand three.
In recognition of his contributions to football, Nielsen was awarded a gold version of the Medal of Merit in nineteen ninety-five. He was also the father of Tommy Møller Nielsen, continuing the legacy of football within his family.
