Richard Petty

Richard Lee Petty, born on July 2, 1937, is an iconic figure in American motorsport, renowned for his remarkable career as a stock car racing driver and team owner. Nicknamed 'the King', Petty's legacy is firmly rooted in the NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series, where he competed from nineteen fifty-eight to nineteen ninety-two. He is best known for driving the No. 43 Plymouth/Pontiac for Petty Enterprises, a name synonymous with racing excellence.

Throughout his illustrious career, Petty achieved unprecedented success, becoming the first driver to secure the Cup Series championship seven times, a record he shares with legends Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson. His career is highlighted by an astounding two hundred race victories, including a record seven wins at the prestigious Daytona 500 and an incredible twenty-seven wins in a single season in nineteen sixty-seven. These achievements have solidified his status as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history.

In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Petty was inducted into the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in two thousand ten. His statistical dominance is unmatched, boasting the most wins, most poles, and most starts in NASCAR history. Beyond his driving career, Petty remains active in the sport as a team ambassador for Legacy Motor Club and as the owner of Petty's Garage, a car restoration and modification shop located in Level Cross, North Carolina.

The Richard Petty Museum, which showcases his storied career, was originally located in Randleman, North Carolina, but returned to its roots in Level Cross in March two thousand fourteen. Additionally, Petty lent his voice to the character Strip 'The King' Weathers in Disney/Pixar's animated films Cars and Cars 3, further cementing his cultural impact.
