Richard Ramirez, born Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramirez on February 29, 1960, was an infamous American serial killer whose reign of terror spanned from April 1984 to August 1985. Operating primarily in Greater Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, he was responsible for the deaths of at least fifteen individuals during a series of brutal break-ins. His heinous acts earned him several monikers, including the Night Stalker and the Walk-In Killer, reflecting the chilling nature of his crimes that typically occurred under the cover of darkness.

Ramirez's violent tendencies can be traced back to a troubled childhood marked by severe abuse from his father, which resulted in brain damage and an early introduction to drug use. By the age of ten, he was already abusing substances, and his fascination with the macabre was further fueled by his older cousin, a Vietnam War veteran who shared gruesome tales of his experiences. This cousin's influence, coupled with Ramirez's own experiences, led him to develop military skills that he later utilized during his criminal activities.

His criminal spree was characterized by a shocking variety of weapons, including handguns, knives, and even a tire iron.
