Rick Hillier

Rick J. Hillier, born on June 30, 1955, is a distinguished retired general of the Canadian Forces, renowned for his leadership and strategic acumen. He held the prestigious position of Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) from February 4, 2005, until July 1, 2008, a role that placed him at the forefront of Canada's military operations and defense policy.

Prior to his appointment as CDS, Hillier served as the Chief of the Land Staff starting on May 30, 2003. His tenure in this role was marked by significant contributions to the Canadian Army, where he focused on modernization and operational readiness, ensuring that the forces were well-prepared for contemporary challenges.

In addition to his military career, Hillier played a crucial role in public health during the COVID-19 pandemic. From November 23, 2020, to March 31, 2021, he led Ontario's vaccination task force, demonstrating his commitment to serving the community beyond his military duties.
