Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Rick Perry

Rick Perry, born on March 4, 1950, in Haskell, Texas, is a prominent American politician and military officer. He grew up in a family of cotton farmers and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972. Following his education, Perry served in the United States Air Force for five years, achieving the rank of captain before returning to Texas in 1977 to embark on a political career.

Perry's political journey began in the Texas House of Representatives, where he served from 1985 to 1991. Initially a Democrat, he switched to the Republican Party in 1989 and was elected as Texas Agriculture Commissioner the following year. His rise continued as he became the lieutenant governor of Texas in 1998, marking a significant milestone as the first Republican to hold that position since Reconstruction.

In December 2000, Perry assumed the governorship of Texas after George W. Bush's resignation. He was elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2006 and 2010, making him the longest-serving governor in Texas history. During his tenure, Perry was known for his staunch conservative policies, including fiscal conservatism, restrictions on abortion, and the expansion of gun rights.

With aspirations for the presidency, Perry announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in 2011. Despite a strong start, his campaign faltered, leading to his withdrawal in January 2012. He later launched a second presidential campaign in 2015, which also did not gain traction. Initially critical of Donald Trump's campaign, Perry eventually endorsed him and was appointed as Secretary of Energy, serving from 2017 until his resignation in December 2019 amid the Trump–Ukraine scandal.
