Rick Wamsley

Rick Wamsley, born on May twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-nine, is a distinguished Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. His career in the National Hockey League saw him don the jerseys of several iconic teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Wamsley's journey began when he was drafted by the Canadiens in nineteen seventy-nine, leading him to play with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs before making his mark in the NHL.

During his tenure with the Canadiens, Wamsley enjoyed notable success, sharing the prestigious William M. Jennings Trophy with teammate Denis Herron in nineteen eighty-two. After three fruitful seasons in Montreal, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues, a move that would ultimately benefit the Canadiens as they used the acquired draft picks to select future stars Shayne Corson and Stéphane Richer. Wamsley later joined the Calgary Flames, contributing to their Stanley Cup victory in nineteen eighty-nine.

Following his retirement after the nineteen ninety-two to ninety-three season, Wamsley transitioned into coaching, starting as a goaltending consultant for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His coaching career flourished as he took on various roles, including assistant coach under Pat Burns from nineteen ninety-four to nineteen ninety-six, and later serving as a pro and amateur scout until nineteen ninety-nine. He also held positions with the St. Louis Blues and the Columbus Blue Jackets as a goaltending coach and pro scout.

In July twenty-ten, Wamsley joined the Ottawa Senators as their goaltending coach, a role he held until his departure in April twenty-sixteen, following a change in management. His extensive experience and contributions to the sport have left a lasting impact on the teams he has been a part of, both on and off the ice.
