Rinat Akhmetov, born on September 21, 1966, is a prominent Ukrainian billionaire and businessman, recognized as the wealthiest individual in Ukraine. He is the founder and president of the international investment group System Capital Management (SCM), which has played a significant role in various sectors of the economy.
Akhmetov is also the owner and president of the renowned Ukrainian football club FC Shakhtar Donetsk. His influence extends beyond business, as he has been actively involved in philanthropy through the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which has provided thirteen million food kits to residents of Ukraine since 2014, reaching over eighteen million people in need.
In addition to his business ventures, Akhmetov served as a member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada for the Party of Regions from 2006 to 2012. However, he later expressed regret about his political involvement, stating, 'And I have no intention of making the same mistake twice.'
As of October 2025, Akhmetov's contributions, including those from SCM, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and Shakhtar Football Club, have amounted to three hundred fifty million dollars to support Ukraine, its military, and civilians during challenging times.
