Rob Merrifield, born on December nineteenth, nineteen fifty-three, is a distinguished Canadian politician, farmer, and businessperson. He served as the Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, where he was first elected in two thousand and subsequently re-elected in two thousand four, two thousand six, and two thousand eight. His tenure in the House of Commons was marked by significant contributions to Canadian transport and infrastructure.

From October two thousand eight to May two thousand eleven, Merrifield held the position of Minister of State for Transport. During this time, he was instrumental in revitalizing Marine Atlantic with the introduction of two new ferries and played a key role in Canada Post's postal transformation. He also oversaw the rollout of Transport Canada's infrastructure funds for Alberta and Saskatchewan as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.

In September two thousand fourteen, Merrifield transitioned from federal politics to a diplomatic role when he resigned from the House of Commons. He accepted an appointment from Alberta Premier Jim Prentice to serve as the province's envoy to the United States in Washington, D.C., where he focused on lobbying for the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Beyond his political career, Merrifield has been actively involved in his community. His leadership roles have included chair and elected board member of the Whitecourt School District Board of Trustees, chair and vice-chair of the Whitecourt/Fox Creek Hospital Board, and membership in the Aspen Regional Health Authority and the Northern Gateway Regional Division No. 10 School Authority. He has also served as an elected member of the Woodland County Council.
