Robbie Rogers

Robbie Rogers, born on May twelfth, nineteen eighty-seven, is a distinguished American former professional soccer player known for his versatility on the field, playing both as a winger and a full-back. His career is marked by significant achievements, including representing the United States national team.

In February two thousand thirteen, Rogers made headlines when he came out as gay, becoming the second male soccer player in Britain to do so, following Justin Fashanu's announcement in nineteen ninety. After a brief hiatus from the sport, he made history by becoming the first openly gay man to compete in a top North American professional sports league, debuting for the LA Galaxy in May two thousand thirteen.

Rogers began his soccer journey at the University of Maryland, where he played college soccer for one season before attracting attention from the Dutch Eredivisie club Heerenveen. He signed with Heerenveen in August two thousand six but did not make any first-team appearances. By February two thousand seven, he returned to the United States to join Columbus Crew, where he enjoyed a successful four-year stint, culminating in an MLS Cup title in two thousand eight and two Supporters' Shield victories in two thousand eight and two thousand nine.

After leaving Columbus Crew in December two thousand eleven, Rogers moved to England, but injuries hampered his playing time, leading to his retirement and subsequent return to the U.S. In two thousand twenty-three, he transitioned into the entertainment industry as an executive producer for the Peabody Award-winning miniseries Fellow Travelers.
