Robert Adam, born on July third, seventeen twenty-eight, was a prominent British neoclassical architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. He was the son of William Adam, Scotland's leading architect of the time, and received his training under his father's guidance. Following William's death, Robert, along with his older brother John, took over the family business, which included significant projects for the Board of Ordnance.

In seventeen fifty-four, Robert embarked on a journey to Rome, where he spent nearly five years immersed in the study of architecture under the tutelage of Charles-Louis Clérisseau and Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
