Robert Creeley

Robert Creeley, born on May twenty-first, nineteen twenty-six, was a distinguished American poet and writer, celebrated for his profound contributions to contemporary literature. Over the course of his career, he authored more than sixty books, showcasing a unique voice that, while associated with the Black Mountain poets, diverged significantly from their stylistic conventions.

Throughout his life, Creeley formed close relationships with notable literary figures such as Charles Olson, Robert Duncan, Allen Ginsberg, John Wieners, and Ed Dorn. These connections enriched his work and solidified his place within the literary community.

In academia, Creeley served as the Samuel P. Capen Professor of Poetry and the Humanities at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His influence extended beyond the classroom; in nineteen ninety-one, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Poetics Program at Buffalo alongside esteemed colleagues like Susan Howe and Charles Bernstein.

His teaching career also took him to Brown University in Providence, where he continued to inspire students with his literary insights. In recognition of his lifetime achievements, Creeley was honored with the Lannan Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to his lasting impact on the world of poetry.
