Robert Fisk

Robert Fisk, born on July twelfth, nineteen forty-six, was a distinguished English journalist, historian, and war correspondent. Renowned for his critical perspective on United States foreign policy in the Middle East and the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli government, Fisk's career spanned several decades and numerous conflicts.

As an international correspondent, he reported on significant events such as the civil wars in Lebanon, Algeria, and Syria, the Iran–Iraq conflict, and the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo. His extensive coverage also included the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Islamic revolution in Iran, Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, and the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. An Arabic speaker, Fisk was notably one of the few Western journalists to interview Osama bin Laden on three occasions between nineteen ninety-three and nineteen ninety-seven.

Fisk's journalistic journey began at the Newcastle Chronicle, followed by the Sunday Express. He later joined The Times, where he served as a correspondent in Northern Ireland, Portugal, and the Middle East, establishing a base in Beirut during the tumultuous period starting in nineteen seventy-six. After nineteen eighty-nine, he became a prominent figure at The Independent, earning numerous accolades, including the Press Awards Foreign Reporter of the Year on seven occasions.

His literary contributions include several influential works such as The Point of No Return (nineteen seventy-five), In Time of War (nineteen eighty-five), Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War (nineteen ninety), The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East (two thousand five), and Syria: Descent Into the Abyss (two thousand fifteen). The term 'fisking,' referring to a detailed rebuttal, and the related verb 'fisk' were coined in his honor.
