Robert Kasting

Robert A. Kasting, born on August 28, 1950, is a distinguished Canadian swimmer who made his mark in the world of competitive swimming, specializing in freestyle and butterfly events. Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, Kasting's athletic journey led him to represent Canada at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where he earned a bronze medal as part of the men's 4x100-metre medley relay team alongside Erik Fish, Bruce Robertson, and William Mahony.

Before his Olympic success, Kasting showcased his talent at the 1966 Commonwealth Games, where he secured silver medals in both the 4x110-yard freestyle and the 4x220-yard freestyle. His prowess continued to shine at the 1970 Commonwealth Games, where he added two silver medals and a gold medal to his collection in the 4x100-metre freestyle relay, 4x200-metre freestyle relay, and the 4x100-metre medley relay.

In addition to his swimming accolades, Kasting was a prominent figure in the sports community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Calgary Olympic Organizing Committee for the 1988 Winter Olympics. He also attended Yale University, where he was a key member of the Yale Bulldogs swimming and diving team from 1970 to 1972, ultimately becoming the team captain in his senior year.

After his swimming career, Kasting pursued a legal education at McGill Law School and practiced law in Vancouver, focusing on administrative law and estate litigation. His commitment to public service was evident when he ran for mayor of Vancouver in the fall of 2014, further demonstrating his dedication to his community.
