Robert La Caze

Robert La Caze, born on February twenty-six, nineteen seventeen, was a distinguished Moroccan and French racing driver who made his mark in the world of motorsport. Raised in Morocco after being born in Paris, La Caze began his career in rallying across North Africa, where he not only excelled in racing but also won a national title in skiing.

His racing career took off post-World War II, with notable achievements in sportscar racing. In nineteen fifty-two, he secured third place at the 12 Hours of Casablanca, followed by a victory at the 3 Hours of Safi the next year. La Caze's prowess was further demonstrated in nineteen fifty-four when he triumphed at the Marrakesh Grand Prix and the Tangier Grand Prix, alongside winning the Rallye du Maroc in a Simca Aronde.

La Caze's legacy in Formula One is particularly significant; he became the first driver to compete under an African licence at the nineteen fifty-eight Moroccan Grand Prix, driving a Cooper T45 as a privateer. He finished fourteenth in his Formula Two machinery, marking a historic moment for Moroccan motorsport.

In addition to his Formula One endeavors, La Caze returned to the prestigious Le Mans race in nineteen fifty-nine and nineteen sixty, driving a Porsche 550 and 718, respectively. His second victory at the Rallye du Maroc came in nineteen sixty-seven in a Renault 8 Gordini, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in rallying.

After retiring from competitive racing in nineteen sixty-eight, La Caze dedicated his life to operating a garage and fostering youth sports in Marrakesh until his passing in two thousand fifteen at the age of ninety-eight.
