Robert Lacroix

Robert Lacroix, born on April fifteenth, nineteen forty, is a distinguished economist and political economist, currently serving as a professor of economics at the Université de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His academic journey began with a Ph.D. in economics from Leuven, Belgium, which he completed in nineteen seventy. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Department of Economics at the Université de Montréal, where he has made significant contributions to the field of labor economics through numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

Throughout his illustrious career, Lacroix has held several prominent administrative positions. From nineteen eighty-seven to nineteen ninety-three, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal. His leadership continued as he served as the Rector of the university from nineteen ninety-eight until two thousand five, shaping the academic landscape of the institution.

In two thousand five, Lacroix was one of the twelve signatories of the political manifesto Pour un Québec lucide, reflecting his engagement in public discourse. His contributions to academia and society have been recognized through various honors, including being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, an Officer of the Order of Canada, and an Officer of the National Order of Quebec. He is also a recipient of the Quebec Award for Science, known as the Prix Armand-Frappier.

In addition to his academic roles, Lacroix is an active Fellow at CIRANO, a Montreal-based think tank focused on economics and public policy, where he continues to influence economic thought and policy in Canada.
