Robert Michels

Robert Michels, born on January ninth, eighteen seventy-six, was a prominent sociologist, university teacher, and philosopher who made significant contributions to elite theory. His work primarily focused on the political behavior of intellectual elites, positioning him within the Italian school of elitism. Michels is perhaps best known for his influential book, Political Parties, published in nineteen eleven, where he introduced the concept of the 'iron law of oligarchy'.

A close associate of notable figures such as Max Weber, Werner Sombart, and Achille Loria, Michels was deeply embedded in the intellectual currents of his time. His political journey saw him transition from the Social Democratic Party of Germany to the Italian Socialist Party, where he supported the revolutionary syndicalist movement and later aligned with Italian fascism.
