Robert Newton Hall

Robert Newton Hall, born on July twenty-sixth, eighteen thirty-six, in Laprairie, Lower Canada, was a distinguished lawyer, educator, judge, and political figure in Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Reverend R.V. Hall and pursued higher education at the University of Vermont, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After being called to the bar in Lower Canada in eighteen sixty-one, he established his legal practice in Sherbrooke.

In eighteen sixty-two, Hall married Lena Kendrick, marking the beginning of a personal life that would complement his professional achievements. His legal career flourished, and in eighteen eighty, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Bishop's College. That same year, he was appointed Queen's Counsel, a testament to his expertise and reputation in the legal community.

Hall's contributions extended beyond law; he was an active political figure, representing the Town of Sherbrooke in the House of Commons of Canada from eighteen eighty-two to eighteen ninety-one as a member of the Liberal-Conservative party. He served as chair of the Select Committee on Geological Surveys in eighteen eighty-four and held significant roles in various railway companies, including the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Massawippi Railway.

In eighteen ninety-two, Hall's career took a new direction when he was appointed as a judge in the Court of Queen's Bench. His tenure was cut short due to illness, leading to his retirement in March nineteen oh seven. Tragically, he passed away later that year at the age of seventy while traveling to England, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community.
