Robert Piché

Robert Piché, born on November fifth, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished retired Canadian aircraft pilot known for his remarkable skills and composure under pressure.

On August twenty-four, two thousand one, Piché was the captain of Air Transat Flight 236, an Airbus A330, when the aircraft encountered a critical situation. It lost all power due to fuel exhaustion, a dire circumstance that would challenge even the most seasoned pilots.

Demonstrating exceptional piloting abilities, Piché managed to glide the aircraft safely to an emergency landing in the Azores. This extraordinary feat set a record for the longest glide distance for a commercial aircraft in non-powered flight, a testament to his expertise and training.

Despite the successful landing, Piché and his co-pilot were later assigned partial responsibility for the incident, highlighting the complexities and challenges faced in aviation.
