Robert Shavlakadze

Robert Shavlakadze, born on April first, nineteen thirty-three, was a distinguished Georgian high jumper who made significant contributions to athletics during his competitive years. He represented the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games in nineteen sixty and nineteen sixty-four, achieving remarkable results with a first-place finish in the former and a fifth-place finish in the latter.

In addition to his Olympic success, Shavlakadze showcased his talent on the European stage, earning a bronze medal at the nineteen sixty-two European Championships. Domestically, he claimed the Soviet title in nineteen sixty-four, while also securing second-place finishes in nineteen fifty-nine, nineteen sixty, and nineteen sixty-two.

After retiring from competitive athletics, Shavlakadze transitioned into coaching, sharing his expertise in Georgia and Congo. His dedication to the sport continued as he took on the role of professor of physical education at the Agricultural University of Georgia from nineteen eighty-one to nineteen ninety-three.
