Roberto Di Matteo

Roberto Di Matteo, born on May 29, 1970, is an accomplished Italian football manager and former professional player. His early career saw him play as a midfielder for Swiss clubs Schaffhausen, Zürich, and Aarau, where he celebrated a league title in the 1992–1993 season. Di Matteo's talent soon led him to Serie A, where he joined Lazio, competing under the guidance of notable managers Dino Zoff and Zdeněk Zeman.

In 1996, Di Matteo made a significant move to Chelsea for a club record fee of four point nine million pounds. His time at Chelsea was marked by impressive performances until he retired in February 2002 at the age of thirty-one due to persistent injury issues. Throughout his international career, he earned thirty-four caps for Italy, netting two goals, and represented his country in UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Transitioning into management, Di Matteo began with Milton Keynes Dons, leading them to the League One playoffs in the 2008–09 season. His managerial prowess was further demonstrated at West Bromwich Albion, where he successfully returned the club to the Premier League. As caretaker manager of Chelsea, he achieved remarkable success, guiding the team to both the FA Cup and their first UEFA Champions League title in 2012, although he was dismissed later that year.

Di Matteo's coaching journey continued with a brief stint at Schalke 04 in 2014–2015, followed by a short tenure at Aston Villa in 2016. His career reflects a blend of playing and managerial excellence, making him a notable figure in the world of football.
