Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Roderic

Roderic, known as the last king of the Goths, ruled over Hispania during a tumultuous period from seven hundred ten to seven hundred eleven. His reign was marked by significant challenges, including a disputed election that left him governing only a portion of the territory while his rival, Achila, controlled the remainder. This division of power set the stage for a turbulent rule.

As king, Roderic faced formidable opposition, including a rebellion from the Basques and the looming threat of the Umayyad invasion. His leadership came to a tragic end at the Battle of Guadalete, where he was defeated and killed, marking a pivotal moment in the history of the region.

Despite his short reign, Roderic's legacy is intertwined with the fate of the Visigothic kingdom. He was the last ruler to govern from Toledo, although the title of the last Gothic king ultimately belongs to Ardo. Following his death, his widow, Egilona, is believed to have married Abd al-Aziz ibn Musa, the first Muslim governor of Hispania, further intertwining the fates of the Visigoths and the emerging Islamic rule.
