Raised on the Omaha Reservation in Macy, Nebraska, Grant faced significant challenges early in life. After being abandoned by his biological parents, he was lovingly raised by his grandparents from the age of six months until nineteen eighty-two. This upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for his roots and a commitment to his community.

In addition to his acclaimed role in Dances with Wolves, Grant has appeared in a variety of films, including Ghosts of Mars, Wild Wild West, and Geronimo: An American Legend. His versatility extends to television, where he portrayed "Chingachgook" in the series Hawkeye and made guest appearances in shows such as Due South and Stargate SG-1.
