Roger Milla

Albert Roger Miller, born on May 20, 1952, is a celebrated Cameroonian former professional footballer who made a significant impact as a forward. Milla is renowned for being one of the first African players to achieve international stardom, particularly during his remarkable performances in three FIFA World Cups with the Cameroon national team.

His career reached new heights at the age of thirty-eight when he scored four goals in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, making him the oldest goalscorer in World Cup history at that time. Milla's contributions were pivotal in leading Cameroon to become the first African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals, a historic achievement that showcased his talent on a global stage.

Four years later, at the age of forty-two, Milla further solidified his legacy by breaking his own record as the oldest goalscorer in World Cup history, netting a goal against Russia during the 1994 tournament. His unique goal celebrations, which included running to the corner flag to perform a dance reminiscent of the lambada, endeared him to fans worldwide.

In recognition of his extraordinary career, Milla was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players in 2004. Additionally, in 2007, the Confederation of African Football honored him as the best African player of the previous fifty years. At the time of his retirement, he held the record as the all-time top scorer from the African region in FIFA World Cup finals with five goals, a record that was later surpassed by Ghana's Asamoah Gyan.
