Roger Wicker

Roger Wicker, born on July fifth, nineteen fifty-one, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, is a distinguished American politician, attorney, and former military officer. He has been serving as the senior United States senator from Mississippi since two thousand seven, following a notable career in public service that began in the Mississippi State Senate.

Wicker's political journey commenced in nineteen eighty-eight when he was elected to represent the sixth district in the Mississippi State Senate. His tenure there lasted until nineteen ninety-five, after which he transitioned to the U.S. House of Representatives, succeeding the long-serving Democratic Congressman Jamie Whitten. During his time in the House, from nineteen ninety-five to two thousand seven, Wicker established himself as a prominent figure in Mississippi politics.

In two thousand seven, he was appointed to the Senate by Governor Haley Barbour to fill the vacancy left by Thad Cochran. Wicker won a special election in two thousand eight and was subsequently reelected in two thousand twelve. His leadership roles include serving as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee from two thousand fifteen to two thousand seventeen and as a deputy Republican whip.
