Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Roland Burris

Roland Burris, born on August third, nineteen thirty-seven, is a distinguished American politician and attorney. He made history as the first African-American elected to statewide office in Illinois, serving as the Comptroller from nineteen seventy-eight, with successful reelections in nineteen eighty-two and nineteen eighty-six. His political journey continued as he was elected Illinois Attorney General in nineteen ninety, becoming only the second African-American to hold such a position in U.S. history.

Despite his significant achievements, Burris faced challenges in his political career, including unsuccessful bids for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Illinois in nineteen ninety-four, as well as attempts in nineteen ninety-eight and two thousand two. Additionally, he ran as an independent candidate in the nineteen ninety-five Chicago mayoral election, where he lost to the incumbent Richard M. Daley.

In January two thousand nine, Burris was appointed to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, who had resigned to assume the presidency. This appointment was mired in controversy due to an ongoing corruption investigation involving then-Governor Rod Blagojevich, raising questions about the legitimacy of the appointment. However, Burris was never convicted of any wrongdoing during this tumultuous period.
