Rolf Carls

Rolf Carls, born on May twenty-ninth, eighteen eighty-five, was a prominent figure in the German Navy during World War II. As a high-ranking admiral, he served as the deputy to Erich Raeder, the commander-in-chief of the Kriegsmarine. Carls held the esteemed position of Flottenchef, the highest administrative rank within the navy, and was an influential member of the Oberkommando der Marine, the High Command of the Navy.

His strategic acumen was particularly evident during Operation Weserübung, the German invasion of Denmark and Norway, where he played a crucial role in planning naval operations. Carls' expertise and leadership were recognized by Raeder, who, upon resigning in early nineteen forty-three, recommended Carls as a potential successor. However, Adolf Hitler ultimately appointed Admiral Karl Donitz to take over the navy, leading to Carls' discharge.

Throughout his military career, Carls was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, a testament to his bravery and service. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was killed in a British air raid on April twenty-fourth, nineteen forty-five, in the town of Bad Oldesloe, marking the end of a significant chapter in naval history.
